The scene: Me and friends at a bookstore in Reading, urgently hunting down a couple titles for me before our train to London arrived.
(It was the sweetest sight I’ve seen in a while, two grown men scrambling up and down floors and shelves so I could have what I wanted. College buds, they’re for life.)
Friend A: This title called The Female Eunuch, would you have it?
Staffperson: I’ll check.
OJ (racing up): And do you have The Madwoman’s Underclothes?
Staffperson (smiling ever so wryly): Oh madam, do I have the answer to that!
English humor, I could marry you. I’d even do the dishes.
Hahahaha!!! Yeah, I love the English sense of humour!
Such fun!
DewdropDream: Hey you, how was the weekend?
dipali: Oh madam, do I have the answer to that! 😉
I have always found the name of the town Reading fascinating. It is as if it will have quaint bookstores, and people would find such happiness there just reading :).
And the staffperson’s second answer: a smooth one, I’d say 🙂
Two of the most awesome books ever! My copy of MWU is so tattered and written in that I will declare it an heirloom soon and pass it on to my sons:-)
So you got them? And English humour *sigh* makes the rest seems like canned laughs.
Terribly busy, what with a wedding and all … but such fun!!! We now have English relatives, and it was an absolute hoot to be able to sample aforementioned humour up close and in person 😀 How was yours? get your tube fix as much as you can before you leave!
Heh heh! That was witty! So how many books did you come away with?
And I am so jealous. You were already there while I was still waiting for my visa. I’m back and already writing captions to photos and you are STILL there…come back and share the humidity with us already!
rofl! book list please.
Anjali: 🙂
Mom Gone Mad: Got ‘The Female Eunuch’. The underclothes have gone missing.
DewdropDream: Ooooh, I did I did I did! Even took a DLR ride on the last day. 😀
Anamika: Oh not many at all. Shoes besieged the fort. Not that I’m complaining, of course. 😉
Nino’s Mum: I got a very interesting one called Strange Tales From London. See, that’s another thing about England. Its eccentricities make me feel so sane in my Parsiness.
ROFL!
Tamanna: I stood there looking like I wanted to marry him. My friends had to drag me away. 😆
