There have been multiple blasts and firing and grenade lobbing in at least 7 locations in Bombay. I heard two three of those explosions. Check my Twitter feed for details and updates.
Edited to add: The Twitter feed on this blog isn’t updating quickly enough. For news as I post, go directly to my Twitter page.
Thanks for the update. Am a bit afraid to call and wake up the parents to find out what’s happening. Will look for updates on your twitter feed.
Is Dhruv OK?
Chips: Sure. I’ll be updating for an hour at least. I do suggest you inform your folks before they step out tomorrow morning, though.
Aunty G: Yes. He’s with his grandparents. I spoke with them.
OMG…OMG…OMG. I am afraid to refresh your twitter feed. But, thanks for updating. It feels like I’m watching a horror movie with just subtitles.
Please please stop hurting my fav city.
stay safe and hope your family and freinds are too.
You’re ok…god this is terrible. Very close to the Oberoi was where I worked..took trains from VT everyday. Just tracked down my friends from work…why are they doing this to the lovely city?
Thanks for the updates. Just a very sad day. Hope everyone is safe.
Ta.
Chips: My sentiments exactly. I’m somewhere between frozen and adrenalized. I’m a fifth generation Bombayite and love this city intimately.
sukanya: So far, so good. Thank you.
gooddaysunshine: I was at an art exhibit at the Oberoi just this morning. All I can be grateful for is that this didn’t happen on a weekend.
Shilpa: It’s the very least I can do. Hope so too, but I just heard a third explosion. Sigh.
Aunty G: You’re welcome.
South Bombay is my back yard. My parents stay in Cuffe and I have lived in and around Colaba for most of my life. I am feeling awful, right now.
I can’t say enough how glad I am to get such up-to-date info from you. Thanks.
Stay safe.
Sorry if this sounds like a chat session!!
Just heard a blast on live TV..NDTV…at the Taj… 😦
This is really shocking
Chips: I feel the same way, hon. Will keep you posted for at least a while longer. And chat away, if it makes you feel better.
gooddaysunshine: It can’t be the one I heard. Wonder where that was. There’s war raging and it shows no signs of abating.
Watch NDTV…apparently all phones were jammed and TVs were off from around 9 pm
That’s in the Taj..sorry.
gooddaysunshine: Not true. I was watching my SATC until 9.30 and have been on and off the phone since then too.
Ahh..okay. 🙂 (excuse the feeble smile)
I’m confused about the Israeli angle…why would Israelis be against American and Brit tourists..
gooddaysunshine: I wouldn’t believe that until it’s confirmed. The Israeli / Jewish references have been made by bystanders and eyewitnesses.
OJ, In response to your question on twitter…. no, it is traumatizing not to know the details… thanks a lot for the updates… stay safe
Just read the news. Shocking to see!
Smitha: Thank you. That’s good to know!
just another mommy: Just when I think I’m beyond shock, my capacity to be shocked afresh surprises me.
I don’t want to watch TV anymore…..its too depressing…Salaskar, Karkare…
Sorry about hijacking this space..please delete the comments if you wish
gooddaysunshine: Please don’t worry about it. This space, particularly this post, is for us to share, so go ahead.
I wish I had a giant band-aid to wrap around my city. It is surreal to just read and hear about what’s happening and not be there. Why can’t this be a sick sad nightmare, that we can wake up from. I feel so bad for families who have their loved ones caught up in this or are out in the city and yet to reach home. Why why why???
Chips: And it ain’t even over yet.
They’re showing a picture of a shooter..what could his motivation possibly be?
Army is finally there..In the Trident.
gooddaysunshine: Maybe he’s too deranged to have one. Cops are trying to enter the Taj, have been instructed to shoot at sight.
People, I’ve reached my Twitter limit for the hour, so the Twitter folks are bumping me off temporarily. Will try to rest now. I can’t wish you a good night, but may we wake up to a saner morning. God bless.
Thanks OJ. You’ve been a real trooper in keeping us updated. Thanks a mil.
Hope this madness ends soon.
Chips: I hope so, hon. 78 dead at last count. I’m going to pray. Prayer flies where eagles never flew. Bye bye.
Do get some sleep…I can’t get myself to turn in..take care and stay safe OJ. Hugs
Thanks OJ. Prayer is all we’ve got .. bye
This sucks.
Take care, OJ.
I just read your twitter feed…thanks for all the information…its so difficult to get complete info without an indian news channel…the rest are just looping the save vdo…
hope you and your family is safe! the Boy thankfully lives far from South Bbay – i don’t know what i would have done otherwise…
take care!
same* vdo
So glad you’re okay doll… and a and d and all your other loves ones too… And grateful for your blog, sending all my love and big big hug. And prayers for our city, xoxox
gooddaysunshine: Didn’t happen, hon. Hug back.
Smitha: I’m waiting for numbness to hit. It’s not hitting!
grimescene: You’re telling me.
wordjunkie: You too, wj.
Mish: Did what I could. And let me know if you need me to check on anyone.
The girlfriend: Thanks, babe. We’re all okay, physically at least. Just arranged blood for a friend’s uncle who got a bullet. Hugs.
No for now at least everyone I know is safe. I’m wondering if this is ever going to end. And life goes on as usual everywhere else. I doubt even half the people in my office are aware of what horror is going on in another part of their world.
Mish: I’m glad about the former sentence and not about the latter. I suppose distance–cultural too, not just geographic–makes it easier to dissociate. Besides, as a race we are now immune to horror. 😦
Yes it does. Its easy to dissociate when your not emotionally vested in the terror. Plus yea the latter holds true. We are getting immune.
