“Did she hurt you?” Mohan’s mother asked, her worried eyes scanning her son’s face.
He thought back to the early days of his marriage, when his wife’s wild rages had her smashing crockery, ripping the sheets, sending watches, forks and vases his way.
“No, Mother,” he staidly replied, nodding at the memory. “She always missed.”
Wrath or humour?
I love the role reversal – the boy’s mum asking him if he’s alright? And the empowered woman throwing a fit at her husband. Wow!
D: I’m curious: why would you consider an act of domestic violence empowerment? Whether it be a man or a woman engaging in it, it’s harmful, right? And oftentimes, men aren’t even socially permitted to show the scars for fear it may deflate their “manhood”.
Moms are mums after all
For ’em, sons always stand tall
But i do agree
With your retort to D
Violence is definitely not on the ball.
Aunty G: I didn’t mean it as a retort! But yes, I stand by what I said. 🙂
loved it! kinda reminded me of myself :p
Piper: Err….okay! 😐 *starts backing away*
And yet, she didn’t miss at all.
I was expecting that. I was using empowerment as in having power over someone. I definitely don’t think any act of violence should be considered empowerment. Wrong choice of word I guess.
But come to think of it, how many women would allow themselves to go into a fit of rage considering the stereotypes they have to fit into? And if a woman can do that – not the violence, just the rage – I think she has broken a stereotype.
A word: Award. On my blog.
i think all violent people should be locked up in a unisex cell. let them beat the hell out of each other and leave the civilised world to live on in peace.
Dadoji: True, true. 😦
D: Glad you clarified. 🙂 Yes, I believe the term ’empowerment’ was inappropriate in this particular context. As for raging women, while tears are certainly a more socially acceptable option than rage, it’s not that uncommon at all. Hell, they’re even deified as goddesses!
Thinking Cramps: Headed right over. 🙂
MM: 😆 There goes half our country.
Did she miss because of bad aim or did she do it deliberately?
Btw, lovely header!
Rajni: If her aim was anything like mine, she certainly missed.
D: Isn’t it? 🙂 The Boy’s doing.
