a.k.a. Unpublishable Saturday Afternoon Whimsy
***
Jamshedji the Hippo lived in Cooverbai Pond
He was born and raised in its glorious mud
After his Daddy did abscond.
…
Growing up among sisters, he would pluck lotus flowers,
String them, wear them, and play pretend
For many afternoon hours.
…
Listening to Beethoven, he would twirl a dainty leg,
And settle down at the end of day
To swig a Parsi peg.
…
He would pray a tad too earnestly for pretty, pretty Daisy
To waddle over and say hello
But no, she was too lazy.
…
His hairdresser was Suki the Stork, who labored all in vain,
Try as she might, it was a fight,
To manicure that mane.
…
If you’re trying to glean exactly where this ditty is going,
Let me know, will you, kind soul,
For I am certainly not knowing.
…
Stop by, say hi and share a drink, these lines will shortly end,
The author doesn’t appear to think,
But will be glad to see a friend.
I’m always available for a drink, virtual or otherwise!
Let this whimsy lead you somewhere…it’s got heavy (err, pun not intended) potential!
this ditty is going…
to make one aunty g
happy as can be
A peg-swigging Parsi hippo is just scaling the height of cuteness that ever existed!! I can visualise 🙂
I am all up for a drink 🙂 Can I have an emaratto sour and a frozen margarita plz 🙂
LOL, dropped by after a long time and had a good laugh. Oh, now that you see this friend, the drink better be frozen lime margaritas. Little A has been weaned and I crave it all the time.
Why do I get this feeling this Parsi hippo is not entirely a figment of your imagination……….come on tell us more…….through ditties about him.
You betcha, MinM, that am happy to see
And read our dear OJ’s going-nowhere ditty
Shall we join in the cheer
With a chilled mug of beer?
She’s proved, beyond doubt, that she’s ALSO witty
A hippo deep in happy hour
But lonely for a friend.
Look, here comes Maisy
Sister of Daisy
To put his woes to end.
(I’m a sucker for happy endings)
Now, about that drink…
Dropped in to say hello and a virtual cheer …. 🙂
Salut!
🙂
Ha ha ha…
That hippo seems rather lonesome
All by its swampy ownsome
For the sake of dear Jamshed,
I hope Daisy did wade,
Over to him with a smile so winsome.
Aah! This is one dear hippo…on this one endeared blog!
Never mind where this is going…..this hippo is as cute as he can get:-)
Three cheers to Jamshed and friends! *hic*
M4: To the looney bin, hon… to the looney bin. 😉
maidinmalaysia: Gotta make up for all that morbid portry that upsets her.
Shivani: And don’t miss his blue Hawaiian shirt. 🙂
Prashanti: One kiwi margarita coming right up!
Manju: Sigh. I suppose I must confess I’ve modelled him on me.
Aunty G: I’ll make this pretty snappy,
say I’m glad to see you happy,
it was my turn
to make the lines churn
and put to work old Lappy.
wordjunkie: Parsi men, honey…more bachelors than not.
M..: Hello!
Priyanka: Hey! This is a surprise. 😀 May I tell you that HHC is my electronic equivalent of comfort food?
Thinking Cramps: No such luck, girl. These Parsi women, they’re picky.
hopscotch: Glad you hopped over.
In love with my life: I’ll tell him you said that. He’ll be mighty chuffed.
dipali: Hic, hic, hurray!
dropped by
just to wave a hi
instead
a going-nowhere ditty
was found
about cooverbai in the city
with a pond
i go back now
to tell sanah the little sow
…this delicious story!
i laboured over this rhyme…but atleast i go back armed with a rhyme that actually rhymes 🙂
surabhi: Even if only for the sake of appropriate rhyming, how can you call the little one a pig??! 😯 Horrors, girl!
little sows are adorable.
and we all get animal names all the time…nothing is profane, nor sacred:)
i did read out the rhyme to her by the way- she guffawed her way through- dont know how much of it she got- but the sound of it charmed her- are there more episodes in jamshedji’s story?
surabhi: I’ll have to get an okay from him first. He can be quite disagreeable if not appropriately appeased.
Haha…you sure can take over from Lewis Carroll 😀
Miss V: …and maybe in that way get to be a character in Alice in Wonderland? Oh joy! 😀
